Maybank is committing RM1 billion ($304 million) over five years in a strategic partnership with Microsoft to modernise its technology infrastructure, boost workforce productivity, and embed artificial intelligence (AI) across its Asean operations and beyond.

It will adopt Microsoft Azure as one of its core cloud platforms for mission-critical systems, data workloads, and key functions. By having a more scalable, resilient and secure foundation, Maybank will be able to leverage real-time data analytics, deploy new services faster, and boost operational efficiency.

All 44,000 Maybank employees will gain access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, allowing them to offload routine work (such as drafting emails, summarising reports and more) to the intelligent assistant. Microsoft 365 Copilot could also help the bank streamline its internal processes and enhance the overall customer experience.

Moreover, Maybank will leverage Microsoft’s advanced security tools to enhance its existing cybersecurity posture.

Since technology is only as good as the user, Maybank and Microsoft will explore setting up a Centre of Excellence to co-develop cloud and AI innovations as well as build in-house talent.

Maybank President & Group CEO Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli shares that this strategic partnership is a “leap forward in its digital transformation journey beyond its M25+ strategy”. “With the right technology strengthening the core parts of our business, we are building a truly agile, faster, and more competitive environment for sustainable growth and long-term value creation for all our stakeholders and customers,” he says.

"By embedding intelligence into the core of financial services, Maybank is transforming how it serves its customers while setting a powerful example for the industry across Asean," says Mayank Wadhwa, president of Microsoft Asean.
