He was also a former banker at JP Morgan and Citigroup, focused on advising on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), financing and capital raising.
Cheng replaces Sembcorp’s former group chief financial officer, Graham Cockroft, who left the company in February to return to New Zealand.
Cheong’s duties as group CFO includes managing the group’s finance, strategy, portfolio and commercial teams.
Shares in Sembcorp closed 1 cent higher or 0.6% up at $1.68 on Feb 5.
