Sembcorp Industries, through its wholly-owned renewables subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Infra Private Limited (SGIPL), has been awarded its first 50MW round-the-clock power project from Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI).

The build-own-operate project is part of SECI’s 1.2GW tender for round-the-clock power from the Inter State Transmission System-connected renewable energy projects.

Sembcorp will integrate about 300MW of installed capacity comprising solar, wind and battery energy storage solutions to meet the contracted capacity.

The latest project will bring the group’s gross renewables capacity in India to over 6.5GW and its total renewables portfolio to 18GW globally.

The project is expected to be ready for commercial operation within 24 months from the signing of the 25-year power purchase agreement with SECI. The project will be funded by a mix of internal funds and debt.

As at 1.30pm, shares in Sembcorp are trading 4 cents higher or 0.59% up at $6.79.
