SINGAPORE (Aug 15): The latest wave of fintech innovation is beginning to change the way we transact. More banking services are now accessible from our mobile phones and making payments from e-wallets is no longer a foreign concept. These highly visible fintech services are bringing innovation closer to home and are seeing ever increasing adoption, usage and availability.
Globally, fintech investment amounted to US$55.3 billion in 2018, with Singapore receiving US$365 million ($492.4 million), up from US$180 million in 2017 [1].

Thinly-traded Singapore Land Group (SingLand) is taking a big swing with Marina Square complex, announcing on Dec 2 its plans to create “Singapore’s first hyper-mixed development” by adding a residential tower, a serviced apartment block and a mixed-use tower.
SingLand, which is 50.37%-owned by parent UOL Group, has entered into four sale-and-purchase agreements (SPAs) to acquire a land parcel at 6 Raffles Boulevard for $99.1 million.

Come Dec 16, unitholders of Manulife US REIT (MUST) will vote on whether to allow the REIT manager to sell up to three of its US office assets and invest in industrial, living and retail assets not just in the US, but also up north in Canada.
Announced on Dec 1, the manager hopes unitholders will approve a disposition mandate to sell up to three existing properties to raise not more than US$350 million ($453.91 million), and an acquisition mandate to buy one or more properties and investments outside the office sector not exceeding US$600 million.
