SINGAPORE (Aug 15): The latest wave of fintech innovation is beginning to change the way we transact. More banking services are now accessible from our mobile phones and making payments from e-wallets is no longer a foreign concept. These highly visible fintech services are bringing innovation closer to home and are seeing ever increasing adoption, usage and availability.
Globally, fintech investment amounted to US$55.3 billion in 2018, with Singapore receiving US$365 million ($492.4 million), up from US$180 million in 2017 [1].
It has been all action and adrenaline in the crypto world in recent days. But nowhere has the transformation been more dramatic, or politically charged, than in the US. Since returning to Washington, US President Donald Trump has moved swiftly: an executive order in January halting the US Federal Reserve’s digital dollar efforts; hosting the first-ever White House Crypto Summit in March; and establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, among other crypto-friendly moves.
SATS has underperformed the average of the more than 600 stocks on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) and the Straits Times Index (STI). Based on Bloomberg data, the average gain of all the stocks is around 22% since the start of the year. The average gain for the STI year to date including dividends is around 19%.
In the meantime, in the same time period, SATS’ share price has fallen by 9%. A first glance through Bloomberg data shows that SATS doesn’t have a book value.
“Spring has arrived [for S-REITs],” say DBS Group Research analysts Derek Tan, Dale Lai, Geraldine Wong and Tabitha Foo, adding that investors should continue to allocate more capital into the sector.
Despite the S-REIT index’s rise of around 5% since early August this year, the sector’s valuations remain “undemanding” at 0.9 times P/B and representing an FY2026 yield of 5.8% or -1 standard deviation (s.d.). Against the 10-year bond yields, the sector has a 4% yield spread.
UOB Kay Hian’s (UOBKH) Jonathan Koh is maintaining his "overweight" call on REITs, specifically those with data centre (DC) focused portfolios.
Koh notes that the advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models has caused a dramatic shift in the data centre landscape, due to AI’s requirement of high-performance computing with massive parallel processing and vast storage.
OCBC Investment Research analyst Ada Lim has initiated “buy” on Mainboard-listed Info-Tech as she sees favourable secular growth trends — such as the global movement towards software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering, rising focus on human resource and finance departments, as well as a growing need for companies to stay compliant and mitigate regulatory risks — benefitting the human resource management software firm.
DBS Group Research and Maybank Securities have reiterated their “buy” calls on Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) with target prices of $5.04 and $4.30, respectively. The analysts say Singtel’s key business units either remain resilient or are showing clear signs of recovery.
Maybank Securities analyst Jarick Seet is expecting ISOTeam’s 1HFY2026 ending Dec 31, 2026, performance to “improve significantly” y-o-y as recognition of some projects come in.
This comes as ISOTeam’s FY2025 results fell short of Seet’s and the consensus’ expectations due to delays in project starting dates and the delayed recognition of some projects. For the year, ISOTeam’s revenue fell by 8.4% y-o-y to $119.2 million while patmi declined by 21.2% y-o-y to $5.1 million.
That said, Seet is maintaining his “buy” call given several positive factors ahead.
