SINGAPORE (Aug 15): The latest wave of fintech innovation is beginning to change the way we transact. More banking services are now accessible from our mobile phones and making payments from e-wallets is no longer a foreign concept. These highly visible fintech services are bringing innovation closer to home and are seeing ever increasing adoption, usage and availability.
Globally, fintech investment amounted to US$55.3 billion in 2018, with Singapore receiving US$365 million ($492.4 million), up from US$180 million in 2017 [1].

This year’s edition of Temasek’s Ecosperity Week started on a sombre note. Temasek CEO Dilhan Pillay said at the opening dinner in May that the global operating landscape has fundamentally changed since the event’s inaugural edition in 2014, and the investor is unlikely to meet its 2030 interim climate target.
Temasek had set a goal in 2019 to halve emissions from 2010 levels by 2030. The Singapore-headquartered investor also aims to achieve net zero by 2050.
Shares of Foundation Healthcare Holdings debuted on the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange (SGX) at 76.5 cents on July 8, 0.5 cents or 0.66% above its IPO price of 76 cents. By the end of the day, the SeaTown-backed integrated healthcare platform closed at 70 cents, down 6 cents, or 8.5%, from its opening price. Some 34.5 million shares changed hands.
In 1984, at age 14, David Chiem became the first Asian to star in a lead role in the Australian TV series Butterfly Island, in which he played a Vietnamese refugee. The role mirrored his own life in many ways: Vietnam-born Chiem had left the country just six years earlier.

Temasek holds controlling stakes in other smaller but high-profile listed companies such as AEM Holdings and CSE Global.
