Capital Group’s American Balanced (AMBAL) strategy, the world’s largest multi-asset strategy, has marked its 50th anniversary with US$258 billion in assets under management (AUM).
Launched in 1975, the US-focused fund combines high-quality equities and bonds, seeking to deliver capital conservation, income, and long-term growth. This balanced approach aims to capture equity market growth while seeking to preserve capital and deliver income through bonds. The strategy has recorded positive calendar-year returns in 42 out of the past 50 years.
AMBAL is available to investors in Singapore and Hong Kong through a Luxembourg-domiciled UCITS fund.
Capital Group, which manages more than US$3 trillion in assets globally, attributes AMBAL’s success to its team-based approach known as The Capital System. The current portfolio team comprises 12 managers with a median of 27 years' investment experience.
“Over the past 50 years, AMBAL has evolved with the US market, taking advantage of opportunities all with a proven track record of strong downside resilience,” says Jeik Sohn, head of client group for Southeast Asia.
Andy Budden, investment director at Capital Group, adds: “The strategy’s balanced approach of investing in growth-oriented and dividend-paying US stocks, alongside investment grade US bonds provides investors the opportunity to participate in market upside with the importance of downside resilience.”
Since inception, AMBAL has delivered returns comparable to the S&P 500 while exhibiting lower volatility.
