Ultra Performance Hybrid V8 succeeds W12 as leading Bentley powertrain

Remember how we were talking about the benefits of scaling within a big automotive group?

Well, barely a month after Lamborghini launched its 800hp Urus SE plug-in hybrid at the Auto China Beijing 2024, Bentley has just announced that its top-shelf W12 engine will be replaced by an “Ultra Performance Hybrid V8”, which should see service in the upcoming Continental GT and its drop-top sibling, the GTC.

The use of this hybrid system creates what will be the most powerful and advanced powertrain in the brand’s 105-year history, with system output rated in excess of 750hp, a four-figure torque value and a 80km range in electric-only mode.

This is at least 90hp more than the twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 found in the Flying Spur Speed and GT W12 Speed variants.

The new Ultra Performance Hybrid will serve as the brand’s leading powertrain and underpin a new family of electrified Bentleys.
