The transport group says it will also be looking at ways to extend the use of AI to its bus operations in Singapore and Australia.

Metroline, a ComfortDelGro company, will be deploying artificial intelligence (AI)-powered service control software, FlowUS Live, across its London operations. The implementation will be an industry first, according to the company.

The service will seek to enhance reliability and consistency, provide more predictable driver shifts, reduce overcrowding during peak hours and reduce passenger waiting times, reads the release dated April 15.

The initiative comes after the successful trial at Metroline’s Edgware garage, where the software was tested on some of the company’s most demanding bus routes, says Metroline. According to the company, the trial reduced excess waiting time, which is a key performance metric used by Transport for London. According to the company, the trial saved passengers a total of 2,000 hours daily across its services in London.

“Metroline is committed to evolving our service delivery and passenger experience,” says Sean O’Shea, CEO of Metroline London. “Embedding the AI-assisted software in our daily operations will not only help us to deliver on these objectives but will also support our vision to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable transport to our communities.”

Pete Ferguson, CEO at Prospective.io, the company behind FlowOS Live, says that the software is used for critical fleet monitoring and decision-making day in day out. “Working closely with Metroline we’ve been able to ensure that the software’s recommendations are effective, and that the overall system works in a practical context, enabling teams to successfully embed AI in their daily work.”
