Singapore Telecommunications’ (Singtel)Australian subsidiary Optus has been slapped with a class action suit filed by Australian national plaintiff firm, Slater & Gordon.
The suit was commenced against Optus on April 21 on the cyberattack the telco experienced in September 2022. The suit was brought by a school teacher and a government employee on behalf of the customers who were affected by the data breach.
“It is alleged that Optus failed to protect, or take reasonable steps to protect, the personal information of its current and former customers,” says Slater & Gordon on its website.
Optus says it has yet to be served with any court documents on the matter and it intends to “vigorously defend” itself.
As at 9.43am, shares in Singtel are trading flat at $2.55.
