MAS appoints NAC chairman and NTU president to board of directors

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has appointed Goh Swee Chen and Professor Ho Teck Hua to its board of directors. They will serve for a term of three years from June 1 to May 31, 2028.

Goh is the chairman of the National Arts Council and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) board of trustees. She is also on the boards of Singapore Airlines(SIA), JTC Corporation, Woodside Energy and GenZero.

Ho is the president of NTU and is an NTU Distinguished University Professor. He is also a member of the boards of DSO National Laboratories, the Government Technology Agency of Singapore and the National Research Foundation, Singapore.

MAS also announced the re-appointment of Lim Hng Kiang for a further term of three years, also from June 1 to May 31, 2028. Lim was the former trade minister and is now the special advisor to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). Prior to his retirement from politics, Lim was also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Minister for Health and Minister for National Development.

As special advisor, Lim advises MTI on economic strategies to grow Singapore’s capabilities and international economic space.

“We welcome the appointment of Ms Goh and Professor Ho, and re-appointment of Mr Lim to the MAS Board of Directors. The perspective and experience they bring from their respective fields will strengthen the collective expertise of the MAS Board to navigate an increasingly complex and challenging world,” says Gan Kim Yong, deputy prime minister, the current Minister for Trade and Industry and chairman of MAS.

Gan will remain as chairman of the central bank, while Chee Hong Tat, now the Minister for National Development, will remain as deputy chairman. Gan was appointed MAS's chairman in May 2024 while Chee was appointed as deputy chairman in July 2024.

Other members of the board include:

  • Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Trade and Industry;
  • Peter Ong, former head of the civil service, and now chairman of MAS’s risk committee;
  • Chaly Mah, chairman of MAS’s audit committee and chairman of Netlink NBN Management
  • Heng Swee Keat, chairman of the National Research Foundation;
  • Lucien Wong, Attorney-General, Attorney-General’s Chambers;
  • Deborah Ong, retired partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP;
  • Ng Wai King, managing partner of WongPartnership; and
  • Chia Der Jiun, managing director of MAS
