Singapore Post (SingPost) has appointed Mark Chong as its new group chief executive officer (GCEO), effective Nov 1. Chong joins from Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) as its current group chief corporate officer.
The 62-year-old’s posting comes months after the group CEO position has been left vacant, since the public firing of three top executives last December.
The former group chief executive Vincent Phang, alongside Vincent Yik and Li Yu, former group chief financial officer and former chief executives were all dismissed after having been found being negligent in the handling of international investigations over a whistle-blower’s report.
Chong, with a 28-year career at Singtel, will lead the executive management team including group COO Neo Su Yin, group CFO Isaac Mah and chief legal officer and company secretary Jonathan Ooi.
Chairman of the board of SingPost, Teo Swee Lian says that Chong’s track record in managing large-scale operations, driving technological transformation, and leading international businesses is aligned with SingPost’s business needs.
“The Board is confident that under Mark's leadership the company will be on a firm footing to achieve its transformation goals. His appointment concludes the board's search and marks a new and exciting chapter for SingPost,” Teo adds.
