He is now chief strategy officer at the law school and is also a senior consultant at Wong Partnership LLC.
“Serving as the first chairman of Singapore Exchange Regulation (SGX RegCo) has been an honour. From its inception nine years ago, SGX RegCo is today seen as a trusted independent regulator, driving governance improvements and greater investor participation," says Tan.
"We have learnt a lot together over these years and have, I feel, etched a path towards more market discipline, board renewal and diversity. I am confident Cheng Chih, with his deep understanding of financial markets, will lead SGX RegCo in making further inroads as a market regulator and developer,” he adds.

Sung joined the board of the RegCo on Jan 1 2025. Between 2015 and 2021, he was a co-founder and CEO of Avanda Investment Management, which was led by Ng Kok Song, former group chief investment officer of the GIC.
Sung, who attended Catholic High School and Raffles Institution, went on to do a degree in mathematics at the University of Waterloo and subsequently a doctorate in the same field from the University of Minnesota.

He calls his new role a "unique opportunity" and that he has "big shoes to fill".
"This is a company whose policies and actions are closely intertwined with the reputation of, and confidence in, Singapore’s capital markets. The team here has contributed much to the Equities Market Review Group (EMRG) under Cheng Han’s leadership," says Sung.
