Singapore Exchange Group (SGX) has reported a 6% y-o-y rise in derivatives traded volume in September to 30.6 million contracts, and a 10% y-o-y securities market turnover value to $33.3 billion.
The exchange reported a 11% y-o-y rise in daily average volume (DAV) from July to September, and a securities DAV of $1.53 billion from July to September, up 16% y-o-y.
The average net fee per contract for equity, currency and commodity derivatives for the quarter was $1.29 and the average securities net clearing fee for the quarter was 2.61 basis points.
Highlights for this month include a record quarter for commodities, with DAV and open interest (OI) of benchmark iron ore derivatives rising 35% q-o-q to 322,168 lots and 3,703,573 lots, respectively, an all-time high.
The group saw a strong momentum in China equity derivatives this month, from the rally of Chinese equity through flagship SGX Equity Derivatives contracts. The SGX FTSE A50 Index Futures traded volume rose 8% y-o-y in September to 11.3 million contracts with DAV reaching 513,577 lots (US$7.7 billion notional).
The bellwether Straits Times Index (STI) advanced 20% y-o-y as it set a new high of 4,356 in mid September. The MSCI Singapore Free Index recorded its fifth straight month of gains in
September, reflecting confidence in both the market’s outlook as well as its liquidity.

SGX also notes that this month saw an active IPO pipeline, with the SGX Securities welcoming the listing of Centurion Accommodation REIT, AvePoint’s secondary listing, and the Catalist listing of Skylink Holdings and MetaOptics.
