(Feb 24): Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner plan to travel to Geneva this week for more US-Iran talks amid a fragile diplomatic effort as regional tensions escalate and the threat of US airstrikes lingers.
President Donald Trump’s special envoy and son-in-law will attend the latest round of Iran negotiations on Thursday, according to people familiar with the discussions.
US and Iranian diplomats have been attempting to broker a nuclear deal in recent weeks, but the possibility of US strikes continues to loom, as the US military has amassed a vast array of forces to the Middle East, including two aircraft carriers, fighter jets and refuelling tankers.
Trump said on Friday that he’s “considering” limited strikes on Iran and has said Tehran has limited time to strike a deal over its nuclear programme. On Monday, the State Department ordered non-emergency personnel at the US embassy in Beirut to evacuate after an assessment of the security environment in the region.
