(April 3): Broadcom Inc, one of the most valuable publicly traded semiconductor companies, named Alphabet Inc executive Amie Thuener as its next chief financial officer, replacing the retiring Kirsten Spears.
Thuener, who has served as Alphabet chief accounting officer and corporate controller since 2018, will take the new job on June 12, Broadcom said in a statement Thursday. Prior to joining Alphabet, Thuener worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Spears, meanwhile, oversaw Broadcom’s finances during a period of rapid expansion. Chief executive officer Hock Tan built the current Broadcom through a string of deals, pushing the chipmaker into a wide range of markets.
“I want to thank Kirsten for her significant contributions and dedication to Broadcom over the past 12 years,” Tan said in the statement. Thuener will bring “deep experience in financial reporting, corporate governance, AI-related transactions and leading complex, global organisations to the company as we continue to focus on creating value for our shareholders.”
Under Tan’s leadership, Broadcom has become central to a spending boom for artificial intelligence computing. The company, now valued at close to US$1.5 trillion, makes networking chips and custom semiconductors for some of the world’s biggest companies. That flood of orders has put sales on course to grow more than 60% this fiscal year to more than US$100 billion, according to Wall Street estimates.
Separately, fellow chipmaker Intel Corp named Zoom Communications Inc veteran Aparna Bawa as its chief legal and people officer. She had been Zoom’s chief operating officer.
