Las Vegas Sands broke ground on its new US$8 billion ultra-luxurious resort and entertainment destination in Singapore on July 15, expanding its footprint and strengthening its commitment in the city-state.

The occasion was officiated by Singapore's Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong; Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu; Las Vegas Sands co-founder Mirian Adelson; chairman and CEO Robert Goldstein; and president and COO Patrick Dumont.

Goldstein says: "With its opening in 2010, our founder Sheldon G. Adelson embarked on a journey in Singapore with Marina Bay Sands (MBS) and the people of Singapore that promised to change the face of tourism in the region. 15 years later, we have delivered on these ambitions and more. MBS is the world's most successful integrated resort in history, and the gold standard in the industry."

"it has been truly incredible to witness Aldelson's vision come to life and we are proud to carry his legacy forward with today's ground breaking ceremony for our new development here. We have every intention of delivering a product that will be the envy of the hospitality industry and ushers in a new era of luxury tourism in Singapore."

The way Goldstein sees it, this new development is not just an extension of MBS, but a brand new building with a brand new identity. "It is its own creation, its own venture and something far different than what MBS has become," he adds.

When completed the new development will feature a 55-storey 570-suite luxury hotel tower capped with rooftop and dining experiences, luxury retail boutiques, gaming, holistic, spa and wellness amenities, 200,000 sq ft of premium meeting space, as well as a purpose-built 15,000-seat arena.

At the groundbreaking event, Wong said there will also be a new national landmark called NS Square along Marina Bay. "It will be a tribute to our national servicemen, a venue for future National Day parades and a space for major cultural and community events," says Wong, adding that water activities will be available along the waterfront, increasing the vibrancy of the area.

Since its inception in 2010, MBS has transformed Singapore's tourism landscape into a leading leisure, business and entertainment destination in Asia. In 2024, MBS hosted a record-breaking 2,200 events, drawing 1.2 million MICE delegates.

"Our new development will raise the bar and redefine the ultra-luxury hospitality realm on a global scale, fuelling further growth of high-value tourism while our state-of-the-art arena will attract the world's most popular performers and usher in a new era of live entertainment in the region," says Dumont.
