(Nov 28): Singapore will implement stricter measures to prevent undesirable or high-risk travellers from boarding flights to the city-state from January.
The new measures, called no-boarding directives, come into effect on Jan 30 and will help authorities identify “prohibited or undesirable travellers” more quickly before they reach Singapore, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority said in a statement Friday.
Tougher border rules place greater onus on airlines to refuse travel to passengers before they fly with carriers facing fines of up to S$10,000 (US$7,705 or RM31,825). Singapore can also refuse travel to people who don’t meet entry requirements, such as a valid visa or passport.
