StarHub has deployed its XGS-PON (Gigabit-capable Symmetric Passive Optical Network) network across Singapore to deliver nationwide 10 Gbps connectivity.
The upgraded broadband network will provide immediate access to additional capacity needed to support bandwidth-intensive consumer applications such as artificial intelligence (AI), immersive gaming and advanced security. It will also empower StarHub to introduce new premium services, unlocking new revenue streams.
StarHub will use Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller to automate and improve network utilisation. Leveraging AI-driven operations to drive better network decisions, Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller enables StarHub to detect network anomalies faster, predict service disruptions before they occur, and improve network utilisation.
Advanced analytics and trained AI agents, such as the ONT Health Monitor application, can help increase efficiencies and drive higher levels of automation across network and service operations.
“Nokia products and services have helped us seamlessly and rapidly transition to XGS-PON, enabling faster uptake of 10Gbps services to support Singapore’s national digital transformation plan. This milestone also signifies a meaningful achievement in StarHub’s Cloud Infinity Strategy. We are now looking forward to providing not only faster internet access, but also enhanced user experience for advanced applications such as Augmented/Virtual Reality and Metaverse, among others,” says Lee Yeu Ching, StarHub’s VP of Fixed and Media Networks.
StarHub is among the first in the world to fully transition to a nationwide software-defined access network using Nokia Altiplano solution, leveraging AI and automation to optimise network utilisation. Deployment and migration started in February 2023, and the move supports Singapore’s Digital Connectivity Blueprint by accelerating the adoption of 10 Gbps PON subscriptions.
