SBS Transit has signed separate technology agreements with Nutanix and Univers as it moves to modernise its IT operations and improve energy efficiency.

Under the memorandum of understanding with Nutanix, SBS Transit will deploy Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) to modernise its IT infrastructure with a unified private or hybrid cloud system. Doing so will centralise data management, enhance scalability, and provide high system availability for transport operations.

The platform will also enable real-time data collection and analytics to support fleet management, route optimisation and passenger-flow monitoring.

Moreover, NCP will strengthen SBS Transit’s reliability and disaster recovery capabilities through integrated backup systems, minimising operational disruptions. The platform's simplified management and resource pooling capabilities are expected to optimise the public transport operator’s IT operations and infrastructure costs, too.

“Modern transit systems, like Singapore’s and beyond, demand highly resilient, scalable, and intelligent cloud infrastructure to sustain the highest quality of service. With Nutanix’s solutions, SBS Transit can harness unified cloud management and real-time data analytics, directly translating into better service quality, optimised operations, and an enhanced travel experience for passengers,” says Ho Chye Soon, Singapore country manager at Nutanix.

Meanwhile, the partnership agreement with Univers focuses on developing an SBS Transit Energy and Operations AI Platform that aims to reshape how energy and operations are managed across the organisation.

By applying Univers’ artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, SBS Transit will be able to connect and analyse data across its bus and rail facilities to improve the monitoring, control and maintenance of assets and systems. This will enhance operational and energy efficiency, in support of broader decarbonisation efforts.

The partnership will also leverage Univers’ recently announced Global Impact AI Lab to incubate and accelerate innovations for the transport sector, advancing AI-driven solutions across energy and beyond that can be scaled from Singapore to other regions.

“As a Singapore-headquartered company, we’re proud to work with SBS Transit on a multi-year AI-driven transformation of energy and operations. The innovations we build here will deliver real impact for the public transport sector in Singapore, and ultimately, the rest of the world,” says Chun Yin Mak, global senior vice president of Univers.
