ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) is expanding its Jakarta campus as Indonesia’s demand for cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure grows.

The Singapore-headquartered data centre operator said STT Jakarta 2 has begun operations with 24 megawatts of IT load, while STT Jakarta 3 has topped out. STT Jakarta 5 and STT Jakarta 6 have broken ground, with each planned to support 40MW of IT load.

Together, the projects advance a development pipeline of more than 360MW of planned AI-ready IT capacity in Indonesia, STT GDC said on June 10.

The buildout comes as Indonesia adds more local infrastructure for cloud services, AI workloads and enterprise digitalisation. STT GDC cites a government estimate that the country’s digital economy will reach US$130 billion ($167 billion) in 2026. It also cited an industry projection that Indonesia’s data centre capacity could reach about 2.7 gigawatts by 2030.

Power for AI workloads

Power access is central to the Jakarta campus expansion.

According to STT GDC, the site is supported by an on-site high-voltage substation, which it describes as the first to be energised for a data centre campus in Indonesia. The substation is designed to improve power reliability and shorten the path from generation to IT load.

Built for high-density workloads, the campus’s data halls are engineered for Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin and Vera Rubin Ultra platforms, and are ready for liquid cooling. This is because STT GDC is an Nvidia colocation partner and is aligning the Jakarta campus design with the infrastructure requirements of next-generation GPU platforms.

Data centres have become more important for AI deployment because advanced workloads require large amounts of computing power, cooling, and stable electricity. For Indonesia, more local capacity also helps keep digital workloads closer to domestic users, companies and regulators.

STT GDC says it is working with PLN on a renewable energy strategy intended to allow the campus to achieve carbon-neutral operations from day one. STT Jakarta 3 is also designed to meet performance benchmarks, including improved energy efficiency and the use of lower-global-warming-potential cooling systems.

“Indonesia is one of Southeast Asia’s most important digital infrastructure markets, driven by accelerating demand for cloud and AI. This expansion reflects our conviction in this country’s long-term growth and our commitment to delivering the scale, resilience and readiness required to support Indonesia’s next phase of digital development,” says Bruno Lopez, STT GDC’s president and group chief executive officer.

Training data centre workers

STT GDC is also using the campus expansion to widen its training efforts in Indonesia.

The company has set up a Data Centre Laboratory Learning Centre in West Java with ATMI Cikarang. The centre gives students access to industrial-grade equipment used in data centre operations, including uninterruptible power supply systems and transformers.

The programme includes Data Centre Fundamentals Certificate training with EPI, as well as internships in STT GDC’s operations and engineering teams. Since September 2025, six students have taken placements of up to 10 months. STT GDC plans to open at least 10 more internship placements by the end of 2026.
