Equinix has signed a third solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in Singapore, deepening its commitment to the city-state’s clean-energy transition as demand for data centre capacity intensifies.

The latest 20-year contract is with ESR-TEPCO Singapore AssetCo Alpha, a special purpose vehicle set up by real-asset manager ESR and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings.

It will supply more than 10 megawatt-peak (MWp) of rooftop solar capacity from commercial and industrial sites across the island, with flexibility to expand in future. Power delivery is slated to begin in 2026.

“Digital infrastructure powers Singapore’s economic growth, and Equinix is proud to grow alongside the nation—guided by shared values of sustainability, innovation, and resilience. Our PPA with ESR and TEPCO HD reflects our commitment to clean energy and collective action, supporting Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and a greener future for all,” says Yee May Leong, managing director of Singapore at Equini.

This move builds on Equinix’s efforts to integrate renewable energy into its operations while supporting clean energy deployment in the local markets where it operates.

The company has been steadily expanding its solar footprint in Singapore to bring more locally generated renewable power into its data centre operations.

Its first long-term agreement in the market was signed with Sembcorp Industries in April 2024, securing about 75 MWp of capacity from 2027. A second agreement followed in December 2024 for up to 58.5 MWp from JTC properties on Jurong Island, with output expected to begin in 2029.

With the newly added capacity, Equinix has now secured 143.5 MWp of solar energy in Singapore since 2024. Once all projects go live, the portfolio is expected to avoid roughly 55,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Established in 2023, AssetCo is developing a rooftop solar PV corporate PPA initiative across the Asia-Pacific region, targeting the installation of 100 MWp of rooftop solar power generation capacity, primarily on logistics warehouses and data centres.
