Lung specialist group O2 Healthcare, a subsidiary of Catalist-listed OUE Healthcare, has launched O2 SleepWell Laboratory, dubbed “Singapore’s first private sleep laboratory”.

Launched on March 13, the O2 SleepWell Laboratory is operated by O2 SleepWell, a subsidiary of O2 Lung Centre, itself a wholly owned subsidiary of O2 Healthcare.

As operator, O2 SleepWell has entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding with insurance provider HSBC Life (Singapore). Both parties will establish a framework for collaboration to provide diagnostic, therapeutic and related services to HSBC Life customers.

According to a March 16 bourse filing, this will facilitate “increased accessibility to medically necessary sleep medicine treatments” by expanding the operator’s collaboration with insurance providers.

As Singapore’s first private sleep laboratory, the SleepWell Lab aims to reduce the burden of sleep medicine treatments on the broader healthcare ecosystem in Singapore.

According to OUE Healthcare’s announcement, sleep disorders often impact a variety of health disciplines, including neurology, ears, nose, throat medicine and dentistry, which may potentially lead to the development of chronic health issues such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and depression.

“However, by addressing the root concerns that may be linked to sleep disorders, patients are able to specifically target health issues, in turn improving their quality of life,” says OUE Healthcare.

Lee Yi Shyan, chairman of OUE Healthcare, says Singapore has placed growing emphasis on preventive care. “Data and clinical experience show that many Singaporeans are chronically sleep-deprived, and sleep must therefore be recognised as a key component of holistic health and well-being. The Ministry of Health has also emphasised the importance of evidence-based sleep assessment and management to ensure that patients receive the appropriate level of care. O2 SleepWell Laboratory was established with this clear purpose — to support Singapore’s preventive health agenda.”

Swee Yong Peng, chief commercial officer of OUE Healthcare and CEO of O2 Healthcare, says the company is building an integrated ecosystem “that supports each person through every stage of their sleep health journey”. “We are working with partners from healthcare, insurance, finance, corporate sectors, and the entire sleep industry to shape the future of sleep health.”

About the lab

Beyond standard diagnostic sleep studies, SleepWell Lab provides a suite of advanced sleep medicine services covering both diagnostic and therapeutic care, which are designed to address a range of sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea.

SleepWell Lab also provides screening and diagnostic services, as well as treatment initiation and long-term management supported by equipment approved by the Health Sciences Authority.

According to OUE Healthcare’s announcement, patients will have the option to undergo their diagnostic overnight sleep studies at Cura Day Surgery Centre at Camden Medical Centre or at any location at their convenience from hospital wards, hotels or in the comfort of their own homes.

Operator O2 SleepWell has also collaborated with Parkway East Hospital to pioneer a dedicated private sleep laboratory at Parkway East Hospital to address complex sleep disorders. The aim is to serve the community through advanced diagnostics, earlier detection and a proactive approach to health management, which is slated to be launched by mid-2026.

O2 SleepWell is led by Dr Lee Chuen Peng, a respiratory physician trained in sleep medicine and an intensivist, with expertise in pulmonary and critical care medicine, sleep medicine and advanced diagnostic procedures.

Lee, who is medical director at O2 SleepWell, says: “Despite its importance to our overall wellness, sleep health is often overlooked, with sleep disorders going undiagnosed. Through the launch of SleepWell Lab, our team of experts are dedicated to advancing sleep health in Singapore.”

OUE Healthcare is a subsidiary company of Mainboard-listed OUE Limited. Shares in OUE Healthcare closed at 2.6 cents on March 13, down some 13% year to date.
