The AIC is located at Temasek Polytechnic and will promote research projects in the area of aquaculture to improve Singapore’s food resilience. Some of the focus areas include nutrition and feed development, disease management, breeding and genetics, amongst other innovations and emerging trends, employing an integrated and inclusive approach.
Members of the AIC consortium include A*STAR, the Singapore Food Agency, and Oceanus’ partners – Temasek Polytechnic, James Cook University – among other leading institutions in the field of aquaculture.
On the other hand, OOI will be an industry partner for AIC and will provide access to its large landbased aquaculture farms in China for research projects in the area of seafood aquaculture. It will also participate in joint seminars and training for industry partners, students and research staff; as well as provide a structured overseas internship programme for students.
Peter Koh, executive director and CEO of Oceanus, says, “This is in line with our strategy to build an ecosystem of diversified businesses within the aquaculture value chain. In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, R&D will be key to remaining at the forefront of the industry, amidst greater global awareness on the importance of food security – a key focus area for Oceanus.”
