Although the potential for telco consolidation in Singapore remains, it is unlikely to ease competition among incumbents due to Simba’s strong growth, says Maybank Securities analyst Hussaini Saifee in his Jan 6 note.
Kuang Ming Investments, the family office of Far East Organization’s CEO Philip Ng, has bought 253,000 shares in Jumbo on the open market for $68,310 or 27 cents per share.
According to Jumbo’s filing, both Tan Kim Choo, wife of Far East Organization’s late founder Ng Teng Fong, and their son Philip Ng Chee Tat, have more than a 20% stake in Kuang Ming.
The transaction, which took place on Dec 23, 2024, now brings Kuang Ming Investments’ stake in the food and beverage (F&B) group to 9% from 8.96% previously.

Manulife US REIT warns that it will report a loss for FY2024 as it books fair value losses on its depreciating portfolio.
Citing independent valuations, the REIT says its portfolio value has been deemed to drop 9.3% or US$116.6 million to US$1.14 billion, from US$1,2 billion as at 31 2023.
Besides tenants downsizing, the lower value was also driven by higher discount rates and terminal capitalisation rates for certain properties.

Maybank Securities analyst Krishna Guha has initiated a “buy” call on Parkway Life REIT, Asia’s largest healthcare REIT, as he sees several factors going in its favour.
In his report dated Jan 8, Guha notes the REIT’s strong track record and earnings visibility, strategic growth plan and favourable cost of capital.
Since its initial public offering (IPO) in 2007, Parkway Life REIT’s distribution per unit (DPU) has grown by 134%. Its net asset value (NAV) has also grown steadily, Guha points out.
The largest shareholder of manufacturer Fu Yu Corp is calling for an EGM to remove two out of the four company directors, citing its deteriorating performance.
Victor Lim Wei De, who holds 29.45% of Fu Yu shares, states in his requisition letter that the company's earnings had dropped from $17.58 million in FY2021 to a loss of $10.11 million in FY2023. The share price has dropped from 33 cents in 2021 to 13 cents as of Jan 9.
