FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO HOUSEHOLD NAME

Originally established in 1987 as a breeder farm selling day-old chicks to broiler and layer farms, the business soon evolved, shifting its focus to egg production. And what began as traditional hen houses with manual collection methods has since transformed into a cutting-edge facility with the latest advancements in poultry farming that meet the highest industry standards.

Each day, Chew’s Egg produces up to a million eggs at its 20-hectare farm where state-of-the-art climate-controlled poultry houses ensure the optimal environment for its hens. Moreover, its hens are fed a 100% plant-based, hormone-free, and antibiotic-free feed.

In fact, this specially-formulated in-house feed is yet another reason why Chew’s Egg has become an established name amongst households - it has enabled the company to produce a diverse range of Designer Eggs with greater nutritional value. These include eggs enriched with Omega-3 and Organic Selenium, as well as king-sized, kampong, and Sakura varieties.

Beyond shell eggs, Chew’s Egg also produces liquid eggs, catering to foodservice industries such as hotels, bakeries, and restaurants. Using an automated egg shell breaker machine to deshell freshly laid eggs from its farm, Chew’s Egg then processes and pasteurises the eggs within 48 hours of being laid.

Even as they embrace modern technology and systems, Chew’s Egg remains deeply committed to preserving the values and care associated with traditional farming practices.

One of the company’s proudest milestones came in 2012, when it pioneered cage-free egg production in Singapore. At a time when conventional battery farming was the norm, Chew’s Egg took a bold step, introducing a more humane approach to rearing hens. The company further solidified its commitment to ethical practices by partnering with Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC) in 2019, becoming the first Certified Humane Cage-Free Egg Producer in Southeast Asia and the only one in Singapore.

Its relocation to a state-of-the-art farm in 2021 marked another milestone in the company’s ongoing journey toward ethical and sustainable farming. Equipped with the latest cage-free technology, Chew’s Egg significantly increased daily cage-free egg production, meeting rising demand while at the same time ensuring the well-being of its feathered flock.

Moreover, each egg is passed through a sophisticated grading and packing machine that subjects it to a series of rigorous quality checks, before it makes its way to consumers within 24 hours.

And testament of their passion to keep their farming heritage alive while embracing hi-tech farming systems, Chew’s Egg offers hands-on training and mentorship for new farmers, combining time-tested animal care practices with modern agricultural technologies. This dedication to nurturing the next generation also reflects the company’s people-first values, with its team truly at the heart of the business.

HERITAGE OF SUSTAINABILITY

Alongside being committed to the ethos of ethical rearing, Chew’s Egg is also steadfast in demonstrating environmental stewardship via a multi-dimensional approach - using less plastic packaging and more recycled materials, harvesting rainwater to reduce freshwater demand, and promoting energy conservation.

Continuously seeking to minimise its ecological footprint, Chew’s Egg recently pioneered a waste-to-resource initiative that transforms chicken manure into a natural, eco-friendly product that enriches soil, improves crop yield, reduces reliance on synthetic fertilisers, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.

Not stopping there, Chew’s Egg has embarked on a project to install solar panels on the farm. This will greatly reduce carbon emissions and generate renewable energy for its farm operations, working towards becoming a carbon-neutral egg farm.
