For those in search of a stay that’s anything but regular, The Standard promises something delightfully offbeat.
Known for its cheeky twist on hospitality, the brand has made its Singapore debut with a property that is both playful and plush. Located a short walk from Orchard Road, this new outpost is far from a cookie-cutter hotel. Instead, it’s a joyous celebration of eclecticism, comfort and attitude.
The Standard’s interiors feel like the lovechild of an upscale salon and an urban art gallery. As we enter, we’re immediately taken by the bold patterns, contemporary art and mid-century lines that surround us. Bursts of colour and lush textures in the lobby set the tone for the rest of the hotel. Even the staff uniforms, designed by Bangkok-based Shone Puipia, embrace the brand’s quirky-chic ethos, with contrast trims and unexpected silhouettes.
The hotel’s 143 rooms are dressed in a palette of warm neutrals, with floor-to-ceiling windows that flood each space with light in the day and deliver views of either the sleek pool or surrounding greenery.

The surrounding gardens and landscaping pull you into a state of calm the moment you arrive. A stroll through the art-lined path leading to the pool area is also worth lingering over, especially as the golden hour casts its spell.
Of course, no Standard property is complete without enviable food and nightlife offerings.

Culinary attention is centred around Kaya at The Standard, the hotel’s take on an izakaya. The menu brings together Japanese techniques and regional ingredients, reimagining comfort food with finesse. Think nigiri with unexpected garnishes, smoky robatayaki and sushi rolls that surprise more than they shock.
On the more laid-back end, Café Standard, just next to the lobby, is the property’s all-day eatery. The American fare offered here is unfussy and delicious: burgers, salads and brunch favourites all executed with finesse. Pair your meal here with a glass of natural wine, locally brewed craft beer or a handcrafted milkshake.
There’s a sense that every space within the hotel is designed to be social. Whether it’s lounging poolside under palm fronds or sharing a plate of maki at the bar, interaction and atmosphere seem to be built into The Standard’s DNA.
Yet, for all its fun-loving personality, the hotel doesn’t forget the basics. Service is warm but casual, the rooms are comfortable without being conventional, and the attention to detail, from the linens to the lighting, is evident without being showy.
Singapore has seen its fair share of luxury launches in recent years, but The Standard brings something different. As other hotels play by the rules, this one playfully rewrites them. And really, who wouldn’t want to check into that?
