Škoda Auto turns 130
Many people regard Škoda as the thinking person’s choice, especially since the Czech brand’s car models today boast a wallet-friendly entry point, stylish designs and many intelligent features for its price segment.
Headquartered in Mladá Boleslav, the Škoda Auto of today consists of two Czech entities, Škoda Works (an industrial conglomerate) and Laurin & Klement – an automobile, motorcycle and bicycle manufacturing company founded in 1895 that was named for its two founders.
It is no mean feat to be celebrating one’s 130th birthday.
This makes Škoda Auto’s rise from regional market leader to a competitive global automaker that sells its cars in over 100 countries under the Volkswagen Group all the more special.
In a nod to its beginnings, the “Laurin & Klement” tag is now applied to the luxurious versions of some of its car models.
Over more than a century, Škoda has borne witness and charted a path through some of the world’s greatest triumphs and tribulations.
Today, it arrives at its current combination of electrified and ICE powertrains, with models that include the Superb, Octavia, Kodiaq, electric Enyaq and Kamiq variants.
