The spate of Lunar New Year meals has already begun, with restaurants all around town putting out seasonal menus to celebrate.
With so many options to choose from, it can be difficult to settle on just one. So we’ve done the legwork for you and rounded up our top picks for the best places to dine as you usher in the Year of the Snake.
Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro
From now till Feb 12, the newly reopened Shisen Hanten — helmed by executive chef Chen Kentaro — is serving up special menus crafted for the Lunar New Year.
For dine-in, the restaurant has put together six menus, including the “Abundance” set, an eight-course spread priced at $208++ per person.

Starting off this menu is a yusheng with salmon and abalone. This is followed by a Shisen Hanten signature — crab roe foie gras chawanmushi — that comes topped with bird’s nest to mark the festive period.
Other standouts on the set menu include the kinmedai fillet with pickled yellow peppers. The fish is topped with a slightly spicy chilli blend that gives it a just-right piquant kick. We also like the shirobuta pork from Hokkaido, which comes with a delicate XO sauce, mushrooms, leeks and peppers.
For dessert, there’s the lightly sweetened double-boiled hashima with dried longans and a “yuan yang” niangao in a crispy wrap featuring two flavours: red sugar on one end and pandan on the other.

Shisen Hanten has also created its own version of pencai. The Abundant Fortune Pot ($518 for takeaway, $488++ for dine-in) is good for four to six, and comes with pork knuckle, roasted duck, whole abalone, Japanese scallops, prawns and sea cucumber.
Orders for takeaway must be placed three days in advance via phone, WhatsApp message or in person at Shisen Hanten. Reservations for dine-in can be made via phone or online at shisenhanten.com.sg.

Offerings include five types of yusheng, including the “Kaleidoscope of Prosperity”, which is available for dine-in only and requires an advance order of one day. The yusheng is prepared in the shunde style, a lesser-known traditional version of the fish salad that is more savoury than sweet. Topped with yellowtail slices and sakura shrimp, the dish is given an extra kick of texture with crispy fried vermicelli and fried conpoy, along with a kaleidoscope of other ingredients.
The “Kaleidoscope of Prosperity” yusheng is available a la carte in two sizes ($128++ or $178++) and as part of the restaurant’s “Golden Treasure” menu ($288++ per person). Also in this set menu is the steamed soon hock, which comes with a delicate arrangement of Shanghai greens at its centre. Yunnan ham, shiitake mushrooms, carrots and julienned ginger complete this dish.
For a hearty soup, YÀN has prepared a pumpkin broth with braised chicken and conpoy. A generous piece of fish maw sits in the bowl, making the dish equally delicious and impressive.
Dishes available for both dine-in and takeaway include a poached kampung chicken, which is marinated with a blend of hairy fig, Chinese herbs, Chinese wine and conpoy. Yellow gardenia gives the chicken a rich golden colour.
YÀN’s Lunar New Year menus are available from now till Feb 12. Reservations for dine-in can be placed via email, and orders for delivery or takeaway can be placed online at yan-restaurant.myshopify.com/collections/lunar-new-year-2025.

Tablescape Restaurant & Bar
Traditional flavours are the name of the game at Tablescape’s Lunar New Year menus this year.
For dine-in, the restaurant has an “Auspicious Treasures” set menu ($88++ per person), which runs from now till Feb 9 and is available for both lunch and dinner. Dishes include a comforting morel mushroom chicken soup, soya-braised chicken with Shanghai greens and wok-fried asparagus with halibut and XO sauce.
