This project is under the fourth tender of the SolarNova programme – a joint effort by the HDB and Economic Development Board (EDB) which aggregates solar demand across government agencies to leverage economies of scale, allowing agencies with smaller energy demands to enjoy clean energy at a lower cost. A total of six government agencies will be participating in this tender.
Under SolarNova 4, Sunseap will also install solar PV systems in 49 government sites. This is also the second SolaNova tender won by Sunseap, the first being in 2015.
CEO of Sunseap Group Frank Phuan says that the group will deploy at least 170,000 bifacial solar panels, the latest in solar technology.
“Unlike typical solar panels, these bifacial solar panels are able to generate power on both sides, increasing energy yield by up to 15%. They are also more durable and can last up to 30 years compared to 25 years previously,” says Phuan.
“When this project is completed, Sunseap would have installed solar systems on top of more than 2,700 HDB blocks or more than 27% of all HDB blocks,” he adds.
Upon completion, Sunseap will have installed more than 600,000 solar panels across 2.4 million sqm of roof space.
