The Edge Singapore’s associate editor Jovi Ho has been named Financial Journalist of the Year by the Securities Investors Association (Singapore). This marks Ho’s third win at Sias’ annual Investors’ Choice Awards and The Edge Singapore’s second win in this category.
In the award citation, Sias says Ho was selected for “depth and originality” in his reporting across “a range of corporate and investment-related issues”. “From capturing the dynamics of AGMs to unpacking complex topics in governance and sustainable finance, your work stands out for its clarity and thoughtful analysis.”
Among the articles up for consideration was Ho’s two-part cover series on investing in war and investing for peace, which ran in The Edge Singapore over March and April this year. The judges behind this year’s Sias awards say the series was “particularly timely, offering diverse perspectives and strong narrative framing”.
“Your commitment to staying informed and exploring emerging themes adds valuable depth to your journalism, helping readers make sense of an increasingly complex financial landscape,” they add.
This marks The Edge Singapore’s fifth consecutive year bagging wins at the annual ICA and the second consecutive win in the same category.
Last year, associate editor Samantha Chiew won the Financial Journalist of the Year Award and a joint cover story by the entire editorial team titled “How to jump-start the stock market” (Issue 1142, week of June 17, 2024) was named Financial Story of the Year.
In 2023, Ho jointly won the Financial Story of the Year award with The Edge Singapore’s executive editor Goola Warden for a cover story on how Singapore’s banks are guarding against greenwashing. In 2022, Ho was named Most Promising Journalist of the Year at the ICA.
In total, five awards were presented this year to financial journalists for their work in advancing responsible investing and investor education.
The Straits Times’ Angela Tan picked up Financial Story of the Year, Andrea Heng of CNA938 was named Investor Education Journalist of the Year, Lianhe Zaobao’s Thomas Li Tao is Sias’ Most Promising Journalist of the Year and Beansprout was named Investment Blog of the Year.
The financial journalism awards are one of seven award categories. In total, more than 44 corporates and individuals received awards honouring robust governance, transparency and sustainability practices.
According to Sias, the ICA employs a “robust multi-stage evaluation process” combining quantitative metrics and qualitative judgment for the winners’ selection process.
Together with industry partners like the NUS Business School, Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) and Singapore Management University, the corporate nominees are reviewed and judged by an independent committee comprising industry leaders, experts and consultants.
David Gerald, founder, president and CEO of Sias, says: “Good governance is the foundation of a trusted marketplace. The Investors’ Choice Awards reflect Sias’ commitment to fostering integrity and accountability among corporates and professionals who lead by example. As companies embrace sustainability and technological transformation, these awards highlight those who not only deliver strong performance but also uphold the highest standards of ethics and responsibility.”
The ICA is held as part of Sias’ Corporate Governance Week, which ran from Nov 6 to 11 this year. More than 750 guests attended the Nov 11 awards ceremony at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong.
