(July 4): Singapore unveiled plans to transform Sentosa and a neighbouring island, adding leisure and lifestyle attractions over two decades to draw more visitors, according to a government press release.
The proposals include a sheltered forest canopy walk to the top of Mount Imbiah and a transport hub linking Sentosa to the 120-hectare Pulau Brani, according to the Greater Sentosa Master Plan released on Friday. Some developments are expected to open from the early 2030s.
The new landmarks are “intended to strengthen Sentosa’s appeal as Singapore’s island playground and sanctuary in a global city”, according to the statement.
Former prime minister Lee Hsien Loong first announced the plan to integrate Sentosa and Brani at the 2019 National Day Rally, according to Channel NewsAsia. Sentosa’s attractions currently include a casino, a Universal Studios theme park and Siloso Beach.
