The asset management team at CGS International (CGSI) is joined by two new members: Phua Zhenghao as group head of investments and Grace Yan as senior portfolio manager.

Phua will oversee the CGSI’s public markets investment strategies, ensure portfolio alignment with broader business objectives and serve as a key voice with institutional clients and stakeholders.

He has over 15 years of investment experience in leading multi-asset portfolios in global institutions, most recently managing multi-asset insurance portfolios valued at some $40 billion at Income Insurance as head of investment strategy. Here, Phua led global asset allocation, strengthened risk-based decision frameworks and implemented derivatives overlays to enhance resilience and capital efficiency.

CGSI notes that his blend of analytical depth, strategic foresight and collaborative leadership places him well to “strengthen and scale” the group’s public markets platform.

At the same time, Yan will “play a key role” in advancing the firm’s equity and thematic strategies, supporting its efforts to deliver differentiated growth opportunities across Asia.

She brings over 17 years of experience and expertise in Asia’s (excluding-Japan) small and mid-cap equities. Prior to joining CGSI, she was with Nikko Asset Management (Nikko AM), now Amova Asset Management, for over 11 years. As senior portfolio manager, she led the Nikko AM Shenton Emerging Enterprise Discovery Fund and the Nikko AM Asian Small Mid Equity Fund, where she shone a light on undervalued, under-researched companies across Asia.

Yan’s stock-picking skills have earned her multiple awards, including Citywire Asia Awards, LSEG Lipper Fund Awards, Fund Selector Asia Awards and The Asset Triple A Sustainable Investing Awards.

On the appointments, CGSI group head of asset management, James Ong, says: “Phua and Yan are invaluable additions to our asset management team; their appointments strengthen our asset management capabilities as we build out both our private and public equity platforms. Leveraging the elevated capabilities of the team, we will roll out exciting initiatives to help our clients benefit from Asean’s capital markets soon.”
