(June 19): US and Iranian officials signed an interim peace deal electronically on Wednesday evening, according to a US official and Iranian state media.

The deal is now in effect, the US official said. It was unclear if the Strait of Hormuz had yet reopened.

The memorandum of understanding was signed digitally by the presidents of both nations, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on state television.

The fate of a planned signing ceremony set to take place in Switzerland on Friday was unclear, with Baghaei saying it had been called off.
