Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has reported a 5.4% y-o-y increase in group passenger traffic for the month of August, outpacing the 2.7% expansion in passenger capacity.

For the month, passenger load factor (PLF) increased by 2.3 percentage points (ppts) y-o-y to 88%, with SIA and Scoot posting monthly PLFs of 86.9% and 91.9% respectively.

The two airlines carried a combined total of 3.6 million passengers, 9.4% higher than last year.

Revenue per passenger per km grew 4.3% y-o-y for SIA, and 9.3% y-o-y for Scoot in the month of August, bringing the total group airlines revenue per passenger per km up 5.4% y-o-y.

Cargo in August saw front-loading demand easing, with loads rising marginally by 0.5% y-o-y, tracking below the 2.3% expansion in capacity. Cargo load factor declined 0.9ppts to 55.2%.

As at end August, SIA Group’s passenger network covered 129 destinations in 37 countries and territories. SIA served 78 destinations, while Scoot served 73 destinations. The cargo network comprised 133 destinations in 38 countries and territories.

Shares in SIA Group closed 3 cents lower or 0.459% down at $6.51 on Sept 15.
