SINGAPORE (Aug 24): Keppel AmFELS, a US-based wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M), has won a contract worth more than US$400 million ($545 million) for the construction of two Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fuelled containerships.

Under the contract awarded by Honolulu-based Pasha Hawaii, the two LNG vessels will be built to Keppel’s proprietary design and customised to Pasha Hawaii’s requirements.

Able to run completely on LNG fuel to reduce their environmental impact and increase fuel efficiency, the new 774-foot Jones Act vessels will be able to carry 2,525 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), including a fully laden capacity of 500 45-foot containers, 400 refrigerated containers, and 300 40-foot dry containers.
