The two integrated resorts changed Singapore’s skyline and put Singapore on the global tourism map. Prior to the pandemic, they contributed significantly to the GDP. Like the rest of the hospitality industry, they are gearing up for the recovery. The Edge Singapore takes a look at Singapore’s tourism industry and how it has evolved to what it is today

It is common for tourists to come to Singapore with a checklist of places to visit. After all, Singapore is well-known for several of its tourist destinations and iconic landmarks. Although border closures are still in effect to curb the current Covid-19 pandemic, there is still much about the Lion City that tourists are eager to explore once borders open up once again.

Today, must-visits for tourists and locals alike include places such as Marina Bay Sands (MBS), Resort World Sentosa (RWS), Chinatown, Mandai Zoo, Eye of Singapore, Esplanade and many more. But just like every great industry in Singapore, it took time for the tourism sector to build up and mature.
