SINGAPORE (March 10): Lim Hee Liat, the founder of coffeeshop operator Kimly Group, was a regular “kopi kid” whose life revolved round coffeeshops.

“My wife and I used to spend many of our dates at coffeeshops. My friends and I would hang out frequently at coffeeshops too, and that was what inspired us to start up [one] of our own,” says Lim.

Twenty-seven years later, Kimly has grown to become one of Singapore’s largest traditional coffeeshop chains with market share of about 5.8% as at end-September 2015.
