French jeweller and watchmaker Cartier continues supporting women entrepreneurs with its annual initiative

SINGAPORE (May 8): Even in the best of circumstances, Cartier’s Women’s Initiative (CWI) is a welcome programme for the way it celebrates and supports women entrepreneurs all over the world. Stripped to its core by movement restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the most important elements of CWI will take centre stage this year — there will be neither a gala dinner in Boston, nor photo opportunities with the 21 finalists. Cartier says evaluations will take place virtually, and the seven finalists will be announced in June.

The show, as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury once crooned, must go on. Conceived in 2006, the CWI has helped women all over the world reach their full potential by shining a light on their achievements and providing them with the financial, social and human capital support to grow their businesses and build their leadership skills. The programme is open to women-run and women-owned businesses in any country and sector that aim to have a strong and sustainable social and environmental impact as defined by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
