VW Tiguan launched in Singapore under Cat A COE

Volkswagen launches the new mild-hybrid, 1.5-litre eTSI Tiguan Life and Tiguan Life Plus in Singapore under the Cat A COE

Volkswagen Centre Singapore - VW's popular crossover (and best-selling model of the Volkswagen Group), the Tiguan, saw the third-generation launched in Singapore.

The sticker price for the Tiguan Life starts from just under $200,000 (including COE at time of writing), with the higher equipped Tiguan Life Plus priced at $209,900.

A portmanteau of tiger and iguana, the Tiguan's chunky contours are tempered by a sophisticated air that results in a lifestyle vehicle that is equally at home in town or country.

This third-gen Tiguan sits on an evolution of VW's familiar MQB evo platform (which underpins several other of the Group's models).

Although height and width are virtually identical to its predecessor, the latest model measures-in at 30mm longer (at 4539mm) and features a 652-litres boot capacity (or 37-litres larger than before), with a 2676mm wheelbase for commodious interior accommodation.

It is the first MQB model to feature newly developed IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights (derived from its flagship Touareg big brother), but there is also a host of technological and mod-con enhancements inside the digitalised cabin.

This includes a new Digital Cockpit with a lush 15-inch infotainment screen and updated UI, as well as a multifunction driving rotary controller with integrated OLED (image below).

Also, the new front ergonomic seats with ventilation and massage functions ensure long road-trips don't leave you all sore by the time you reach your destination.

Mated to a 7spd DSG dual-clutch gearbox (with shifter mounted on the steering column), the intelligent, 48V mild-hybrid 1.5-litre eTSI engine under the bonnet boasts ACT (Active Cylinder Management) for better fuel economy (approximately 6.7l/100km), with output rated at 130hp and 220Nm – this sees the new car fall within the Cat A COE in Singapore.

It is no slouch though, because the 0-100km/h sprint is dispatched in 10.6secs, with top speed rated to 198km/h.

Dr. Kurt Leitner, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Singapore (pictured above), told us, “Globally, the Tiguan has been the best-selling model of not only Volkswagen Passenger Cars but also the Volkswagen Group. Now, as we unveil the eagerly anticipated new generation of this iconic SUV, we're proud to introduce a vehicle that sets new standards in design and technology. Now available in Category A COE with the enhanced efficiency of mild hybrid drive, we're confident that the Tiguan will not only captivate but also deliver exceptional value to car buyers in Singapore.”
