Nestled in New Bahru — the darling new spot in town, home to several trendy restaurants, cafés and bars — is Le Clos, a French restaurant that aims to redefine the local wine-and-dine experience.
Founded by Jean-Christophe Cadoret, a passionate wine connoisseur and entrepreneur, Le Clos offers a curated journey into the world of exceptional wines paired with thoughtfully crafted French comfort food.
The restaurant houses an extensive cellar of over 800 wine labels, spanning approachable everyday wines to rare and collectible vintages, including biodynamic and organic offerings. With wines sourced from regions such as Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone Valley, as well as unique picks from countries like Japan and Australia, the collection reflects Cadoret’s commitment to showcasing the artistry of small producers and celebrated estates alike.
While the wine takes centre stage, the food at Le Clos is far from an afterthought. The menu reimagines French comfort food, with highlights including a gourmet twist on the classic croque monsieur, made with Parisian ham and aged comté cheese ($25++), and a Josper oven-grilled Japanese tuna collar ($15++ per 100g). These dishes are crafted to complement the wines and create a harmonious dining experience.

A standout dish is the black Angus rib ($17++ per 100g), grilled to smoky, tender perfection and paired with a rich bordelaise sauce. Another is the refreshing watermelon, feta and mint salad, which transforms simple ingredients into a celebration of summer flavours. Finish your meal with a scoop of homemade gelato ($6++ for one scoop, $10++ for two); the lemon flavour, drizzled with olive oil, is highly recommended.
The setting at Le Clos is as inviting as its menu. Its modern interiors feature marble-topped tables, plush seating and serene greenery. The al fresco terrasse, complete with a pétanque pitch, offers a delightful space for casual gatherings.
Whether you’re indulging in a meticulously paired wine and food menu or simply relaxing with friends, Le Clos leaves a lasting impression. As one patron puts it: “Le Clos isn’t just a wine house — it’s where the essence of French culture comes alive in every sip and bite.”
