Warden beat out two other nominees in this category, including a March cover story titled “Investing in war: A call to arms for defence stocks” by The Edge Singapore associate editor Jovi Ho, writer Douglas Toh and analyst Thiveyen Kathirrasan. Another nominee in this category was Jada Nagumo of Nikkei Asia, who wrote “Asian stock markets take on Wall Street with slate of reforms”.
Meanwhile, associate editor Samantha Chiew won The Hidden Gem with her cover story “Jewels of Thakral’s crown”, which looks at how conglomerate Thakral Corporation is unlocking value with planned listings of its overseas associates, including retirement home operator GemLife Communities Group in Australia.
The other three nominees in the Hidden Gem category, which spans across different mediums and not just print, are “A stock that offers shelter from Trump’s mayhem” by Ben Paul of The Business Times, featuring CNMC Goldmine; “From ornamental fish to aquaculture and pet accessories — How is Qian Hu positioning for the future?”, by Chua Tian Tian of radio station Money FM 89.3, and “Why this niche semiconductor player is on our dividend watchlist”, by Adam Wong of The Fifth Person, on Micro-Mechanics (Holdings).
This marks The Edge Singapore’s sixth consecutive year winning in the Hidden Gem category, which seeks to honour the best feature or analysis of an under-covered stock listed on the SGX. Chiew last won in this category in 2020.

With the latest wins, The Edge Singapore has won the Story of the Year prize at five of the award’s eight editions. Senior writer Nicole Lim won the 2024 award with a November 2023 cover story on the creator economy.
Submissions were reviewed by an independent panel of judges comprising Chuin Ting Weber, CEO and CIO at MoneyOwl; Richard Chan, partner and head of equities at Avanda; Sophie Astles, former head of awards and research at GlobalCapital; and Terence Wong, founder and CEO at Azure Capital.
Alvin Chow, assistant director of investment advisory at iFAST Global Markets and Gerald Wong, CFA, founder and CEO of Beansprout, were judges of the Special Category, The Markets of Tomorrow, which is meant for younger participants to tell their stories and share their observations regardless of medium. An entry by Ngee Ann Polytechnic students Fedora Tan and Darren Tan for their video on blockchain technology beat two other nominees.

A story on young adults’ spending habits by Sue-Ann Tan and Timothy Goh of The Straits Times won in the An Experiential Treat category, which is awarded to creative methods of storytelling. Last but not least, Thrive by The Business Times won #TheGoTo award, which honours digital platforms focused on financial education.
