(Feb 22): Indian trade officials will postpone a trip to the US aimed at finalising their interim deal after a US Supreme Court ruling that struck down many of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
The talks set for this week will be rescheduled for a later date, according to officials in New Delhi familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry didn’t immediately respond to an emailed request for comment outside of regular business hours.
After the Supreme Court’s landmark decision on Friday, Trump imposed a new 10% global levy instead and vowed to use other powers to maintain his signature tariff policies. On Saturday, he raised that new tariff to 15%.
India earlier this month reached an interim framework where Trump cut the levy on Indian goods to 18% from 25%, and also removed an extra punitive 25% duty.
The visit will take place when both countries have studied and evaluated the developments and its implications, the officials said.
